The remaining SE7/SE8 trains on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route will be suspended from August 23, according to Vietnam Railways Corporation.

On August 21, the Saigon Railway Company decided to suspend the operation of SE8 train to the North at Saigon Railway Station from August 23.

In the opposite direction, SE7 train stops running at Hanoi Station from August 25 until further notice.

After the suspension of SE7/SE8 trains, the whole national railway network no longer has passenger trains, only freight trains are in operation.

According to the leader of the corporation, two trains are suspended due to the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic and the number of passengers plummeting.

Many stations on the North-South railway line have been closed to prevent Covid-19 such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, so passengers cannot board the train even though it is operating.

Passengers who have purchased tickets for the suspended SE7/SE8 train can contact the station to return or reserve the tickets before the train departure time.

Passengers who cannot return tickets due to quarantine will be able to return them after the above time.

The railway industry has reduced passenger trains for many routes since the end of May, except a pair of SE7/SE8 trains on the North-South route.

Currently, the corporation only operates specialized trains to bring people back to their hometowns according to the need of localities.

In July and August, the Vietnam Railways Corporation organized 5 specialized trains to safely bring nearly 2,500 passengers from Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces back to their hometowns in the province of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri  and Thua Thien Hue.
