Authorities in the northern province of Bac Ninh have ordered factories to set up on-site sleeping arrangements for workers from June 2 and put in place other procedures to enable operations to continue.

Workers must test negative for covid 19 within 72 hours to enter the factories where they live and work, with office space temporarily converted into worker accommodation.

Furthermore, those who stay in dormitories will be treated as F2 cases and will not be allowed to go outside.

Factories in Bac Ninh have also split their workforce over two shifts to avoid factory shutdowns.

Ms. Nguyen Huong Giang, Chairman of Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee, said that the density of workers living in Bac Ninh province is very crowded, five times higher than the whole country.

A rapidly spreading COVID-19 outbreak has left factories operating below capacity in Vietnam's industrial northern provinces, where suppliers for Apple, Samsung and other global tech firms are located.

The government is encouraging companies to find Covid-19 vaccines for their workers.

According to Vietnam’s health ministry, over 1 million people in the country, or about 1 per cent of the nation’s population, have received at least a first vaccine dose.

The authorities of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces have initiated plans to provide local workers with approximately 240,000 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine doses to curb the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus among the community.
